The maintenance of quartz tubes must be performed regularly to ensure their long-term stable performance. Regularly check the connections, fixings, and mechanical vibrations of the quartz tubes to prevent abnormalities. The exterior of the quartz tubes is prone to contamination from dust and moisture, so they should be cleaned regularly.
Storage environmen
When storing quartz tubes, care should be taken to avoid exposure to mechanical vibrations, shocks, and excessively high temperatures. They should be kept in a dry, cool, and well-ventilated place, avoiding direct sunlight and high-temperature environments.
A PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene) stopcock is preferred for several reasons: it eliminates the need for grease, preventing potential contamination of your reagents or product; it offers superior chemical resistance to a wider range of aggressive chemicals compared to glass; and it provides a smoother, more durable, and easier-to-operate seal without the risk of seizing or sticking over time.
While the funnel itself is made from high-purity quartz and possesses excellent thermal stability (withstanding high temperatures like other quartz glassware), dropping funnels are typically used for adding liquids to a reaction, not for direct heating. Therefore, the temperature resistance of the liquid being added and the reaction vessel is usually the limiting factor, rather than the funnel itself needing to withstand extreme direct heat. It will, however, handle the temperature of the contents and ambient lab conditions very well.
